Very unusual Spyderco GEN-1 Rescue.  

Features a 3 3/4" fully serrated AUS-8 stainless Sheepfoot blade.  Black FRN handles with vent.  Integral black FRN Clipit pocket clip.  Handle inlayed with red enamel with contrasting white enamel on the round logo.  Assume this was an aftermarket variant, but I was not able to find a comparable version during my limited search.  Original box dated 11/97.  Original paperwork included.  

Knife is as new.  No signs of use or carry.  Original factory edge.  Me thinks this is a very unusual variant of an early gen-1 Rescue.  Made in Seki City Japan

 The Filipino culture and the martial arts culture in particular has a deep, rich history. One of those tools is the Ginunting. Possibly derived from a Binangon (which was used as a farm or yard tool), the Ginunting is a powerful weapon.

  Adam Boyce, aka Spartan mode, is an Idaho native and friend of TOPS. In 2018, Adam approached TOPS because he had an opportunity to be a contestant on the Forged in Fire spinoff show Knife or Death. In the end, he was an alternate and wasn’t able to compete, but the X16 Ginunting was prototyped for him to be used on the show if he was selected. Years later, while going through some boxes of old models and prototypes, we stumbled upon one of the Ginuntings that was made and decided that it was probably time to make it a TOPS model for real. This beast weighs slightly over 2lbs, so it’s got the weight of a small sword and is highly capable as an outdoors blade. Remember the knives the Ginunting came from were farm tools after all. It also has all of the same features found in most model Ginunting blades, so it does double-duty as a weapon.
