The NL3 Njord is a strong, well-balance knife that is a joy to handle. It is hard to find a more attractive all-round knife and its strength of course lies in the laminated VG10W steel. When it comes to the Northern Light Series nothing has been spared to make the knife as strong, beautiful and comfortable as possible. The knife is a pleasure to look at and a thrill to use.

  The laminated blade is forged with an edge of VG10W steel to which they have added tungsten (W). In general, the addition of tungsten means that the edge becomes substantially more solid and keeps the sharpness better, at least that is what our own tests have showed. And the sides are made of a tough, all-stainless 420J2 steel. This excellent combination of metals brings together all conceivable and desirable knife properties including resilience, resistance to torque and edge-durability all in a single blade. A 6 mm thick blade in itself would be strong enough for most tasks – with laminate technology one can expect an additional 20% strength in the form of resistance to bending, as compared to an ordinary VG10 blade.

DPx HEAT/F 002 is here. In 2010 Robert Young Pelton took his original 3" 1095 Shon Rowen-made fixed survival blade and turned it into a brutal use locking folder. He demanded the best, American made Ti aerospace grade titanium alloy and Olive Drab G10 to create an integral, no scale frame. Then he added a D2 Tool Steel blade, mil spec coated it and had it machined in Northern Italy the same place they make Ferraris, Lamborghinis and Ducatis. He added a hex driver, low profile clip and glass breaker. The knife also features the same bottle opener notch premiered on the fixed blade which, on a folder, doubles as a "quick open" feature. It continues to make experienced knife users rethink what they can get in a hand assembled, user designed, no excuses survival tool. But there is another group that want the same no expense spared approach to the under 3" inch blade. Law enforcement, military and first responders wanted less blade, more knife. And they still wanted the glass breaker, rapid deployment, non lethal ergonomic grip and quality. So the Hostile Environment At Hand Tool (HEAT) was born.
