The ESEE® KNIVES FIRE STEEL is built from 1095 Carbon Steel and heat treated to be used as a fire making tool for use with true flint and charred material. The edges of the Fire Steel also work as a Ferrocerium (Ferro) rod striker, and the center divot is designed to be used as a bow drill socket. The Randall's Adventure Training (ESEE Cutlery) Fire Kit features a Misch Metal Flint. It does not produce a shower of sparks like standard Ferro rods. When struck with a sharp edge, the Misch Metal flint produces small balls of molten particles that burn hotter and have a longer burn time than sparks from a standard fire flint. This rod has been proven to light difficult tinder that regular flint won't. The Misch flint is attached to a mil-spec anodized aluminum watertight capsule that has storage for tinder, fishhooks, line and other essential supplies (all user supplied). The cap is O-ring sealed.
