$145.00TOPS Mil-Spie 5 Partially Serrated Fixed Blade Knife The name Mil-SPIE is an acronym that the DOD came up with several years ago. It stands for (Military-Special Projects Individual Equipment) Pronounced "MIL SPY" This was to enable Special Operation Forces within the Military to help developed, test, evaluate, and acquire "out of the ordinary" and "outside of normal channels" items that they require. TOPS Knives is often approached by individual OPERATORS who advise us of their ideas and the criteria that needs to be met for their Unit or Team. This challenge was to develop a small and a large field knife with a fairly narrow carrying profile. It had to be strong and lightweight. With this criteria in mind TOPS created and named the Mil-SPIE Knives. Two sizes were developed: Mil-SPIE-3 and Mil-SPIE-5. This model -Mil-SPIE-5 - is more adept for belt or vest carry, while still maintaining a low profile. The scales are black linen micarta with TOPS dot dash dot pattern embedded in the handle. The handle scales are removable and the skeletonized knife is just as popular as the one with handles. The blade os coated with TOPS black traction coating. The sheath system is heavy duty kydex, which locks the knife in place in the closed position and has a spring steel clip for attachment in a variety of positions. He is an athlete - ultra-marathons, triathlons, rock climbing, etc., a martial artist - several styles, and an expert in primitive weapons, hunting, and shelters. He has more "dirt time" than almost anyone else out there. In keeping with the same theme as his first design through TOPS (the Little Bugger). It's thin with TOPS'; modified Scandi grind, a tumble finish and tan canvas Micarta handle scales. This one comes with a deep carry brown leather sheath that Matt designed based off some old Native American styles of sheath. It is meant to ride cross-draw, underneath the belt, towards the back side of the wearer. Please keep in mind, the stock of this tool is 1/8" thick. Therefore, uses like batoning are not recommended and bent blades due to that type of use will not be covered under the warranty. When ESEE finally decided to make knives specifically for hunters, we sought advice and opinions from some of the best in the industry, and the new Ashley Game Knife (AGK) was designed by Ashley Emerson. As a guide and hunter from Alaska to Africa, Ashley has had opportunities to deal with hundreds of deer, many more wild hogs, and other animals from squirrels to buffalo. As he has with guns, hes used many different knives and modified them to fit what works, and the AGK was born from his vast experience handling game in the field. The lengths of both the blade and the handle have been optimized for leverage for jobs like splitting a sternum. The handle incorporates a guard, a full tang, a proven grip shape, and a radiused lanyard hole large enough for a loop of 550 cord. The scales are Canvas Micarta (orange G10 also available), which is a solid handle material that doesnt slip when wet. Ashley has used a wide variety of scale materials, and he prefers Micarta for working knives, as the grip and feel is way more important when working game than the scales being impervious to sweat, blood, and other fluids. Like the stone-washed black-oxide blade, the scales develop a great worn-in look with use. The blade width allows for working inside the pelvic cavity of the average whitetail, and the subtle sweep of the blade places the point in line with the handle. This still allows an optimal drop point and an edge that is continually curved. With no sharpening notch at the choil, you wont have to worry about the knife catching on hides. While it has some similarities to actual Viking axes, Leo added his own flair to the design and it became something totally different. It is made from one solid slab of 5/16" 1075 instead of the usual 1095. This was to provide better impact resistance with only slightly less edge retention. Its large 5.25" blade will chop through just about anything you put in front of it. The spike on the back is double-edged to provide maximum damage (2.18" on the top side, 1.88" on the bottom). The long handle with grippy Black Linen Micarta gives great reach and power with every chop. A high quality black leather sheath is included with two snaps to secure the ax in the sheath. The sheath was designed simply as a blade cover, not as a belt sheath (for safety reasons). There are small loops on the back that can be used to secure it to a pack or other MOLLE gear. Take this with you on your next camping trip, put it in your bug-out-bag (if it's large enough for this), or leave it in your vehicle for easy access.
