 The Filipino culture and the martial arts culture in particular has a deep, rich history. One of those tools is the Ginunting. Possibly derived from a Binangon (which was used as a farm or yard tool), the Ginunting is a powerful weapon.

  Adam Boyce, aka Spartan mode, is an Idaho native and friend of TOPS. In 2018, Adam approached TOPS because he had an opportunity to be a contestant on the Forged in Fire spinoff show Knife or Death. In the end, he was an alternate and wasn’t able to compete, but the X16 Ginunting was prototyped for him to be used on the show if he was selected. Years later, while going through some boxes of old models and prototypes, we stumbled upon one of the Ginuntings that was made and decided that it was probably time to make it a TOPS model for real. This beast weighs slightly over 2lbs, so it’s got the weight of a small sword and is highly capable as an outdoors blade. Remember the knives the Ginunting came from were farm tools after all. It also has all of the same features found in most model Ginunting blades, so it does double-duty as a weapon.

The name comes from the mythical creature Lilith, who has been depicted as a seductress, heroine, and the embodiment of female wiles and secrets. A fitting name for such a large, powerful, and elegant tool. It has high grinds to give it great edge geometry for cutting tasks and great for deep cuts when chopping. The handle has the right amount of thickness and heft and is well-contoured to make it very comfortable to wield. Because the handle tapers toward the pommel as you would expect to see with throwing knife designs, there is a finger ring that is chamfered to aid in retention. TOPS also added a lanyard hole for those that would like to choke back for a little more length in chopping and help them to keep a good hold on it.

The Mini Scandi Folder designed by TOPS and made by Maserin has been a welcome addition to the TOPS lineup for several years now. Because of its popularity and functionality, we’ve decided to add another blade option on what is basically the same handle. This new liner lock MSF has G10 handles instead of Micarta. We also wanted to use a “super steel” –Elmax in this case –that we hadn’t used before for the folks that have been wanting high end steels from TOPS. The pivot screw has a little more flare and the pocket clip has been converted to a deep carry clip. It is still reversible for the lefty’s out there too. The other main difference is that this blade is a clip point with a high flat grind instead of a modified Scandi drop point. Once you get this blade in your pocket and start using it, it is sure to become a main choice for EDC folders.

TOPS Mil-Spie 3 Elite BCM: This version is called the Mil-SPIE Elite. It is the same size and specs as the Mil-SPIE 3, with a few differences. Remember the Shadow Hunter? That classic from the TOPS archives, a favorite of TOPS founder Mike.  Well, it's making a comeback, and it's not just a trip down memory lane.

  This new version has slight modifications to make everything about it better. First, the blade is just a bit longer, which makes it look and perform better. The jimping was repositioned and updated. The finger choil was widened slightly to make it safer. Then the handles are a bit thicker with a better contour to make them much more comfortable for long use. The new finish is Cerakote instead of powder coat, and now it has a Coyote Tan Kydex sheath with a rotating clip.
