Traditional Puukko, meets Colombian jungle, meets TOPS Knives Puukkos are a style of knife originally developed in Scandinavia. Through the years, they have remained largely unchanged. Characteristically, they are Scandi ground knives with thick, round wooden handles. Most do not have a finger guard, which allows the person using it to get their hand as close to the cutting edge as possible. This gives the user very precise and controlled cutting. Its simplistic design is both useful and intuitive and has definitely withstood the test of time. To make the Tanimboca Puuko, TOPS has teamed up with Goran Mihajlovic. Goran is originally from Serbia but grew up in Germany. He has lived in Colombia now for the last 20 plus years. He owns a nature reserve called Tanimboca that houses hundreds if not thousands of species of plant, animal, and insect. Throughout his entire life, he has been a knife user and enthusiast. In recent years he has begun making knives at his forge in the Amazon jungle. He prefers Puukkos for their ability to perform well at large variety of cutting tasks. The TOPS version of his design mixes traditional elements with TOPS style. It has the classic Puukko blade with a very slight clip point. The spine is ground to 90 degrees for scraping tasks. Well-rounded Tan Canvas Micarta handles with red liners honor the traditional style. The knife sits deep in the leather sheath. Remember the Shadow Hunter? That classic from the TOPS archives, a favorite of TOPS founder Mike.  Well, it's making a comeback, and it's not just a trip down memory lane.

  This new version has slight modifications to make everything about it better. First, the blade is just a bit longer, which makes it look and perform better. The jimping was repositioned and updated. The finger choil was widened slightly to make it safer. Then the handles are a bit thicker with a better contour to make them much more comfortable for long use. The new finish is Cerakote instead of powder coat, and now it has a Coyote Tan Kydex sheath with a rotating clip. This TOPS Wild Pig Hunter knife is a seriously hardcore design. The 7 1/2" blade is made for deep positive piercing penetration and is combined with a strong puncture point. Each blade is ground from 1/4 inch thick 1095 high carbon steel. TOPS added their new Sniper Gray finish which will give years of dependable service. The handle is green canvas Micarta and with their well known Rocky Mountain Tread which ensures a positive grip even when in wet, muddy, or bloody conditions. The sheath is made in the USA of vegetable tanned, tough steer hide.
