The blade is purposely wider than others to create a more devastating wound channel. The overall length is 12 5/8 inches, allowing a generous grip that accommodates large or gloved hands. And whether the operator's hands are bloody or frozen, Top's Knives's famous Rocky Mountain Tread handle scales offer the ideal combat hold. The War Bowie's classic sweep and forward balance point naturally facilitate cutting and chopping. The unique dropped blade forms an integral safety guard that makes it impossible for the operator's fingers to accidentally slide forward and be cut while stabbing with forward or reverse grips. Thumb grooves on the spine add extra control for fine cuts. A sharpening groove at the base of the edge eases sharpening in the field. The Prather War Bowie's false edge delivers superior penetration when thrusting. The War Bowie comes with a black nylon tactical sheath, that has a front pocket and MOLLE webbing on the back. The blade steel is N690Co, which is a very stain resistant steel that holds an edge well and is fairly easy to resharpen when needed. $145.00TOPS Mil-Spie 5 Partially Serrated Fixed Blade Knife The name Mil-SPIE is an acronym that the DOD came up with several years ago. It stands for (Military-Special Projects Individual Equipment) Pronounced "MIL SPY" This was to enable Special Operation Forces within the Military to help developed, test, evaluate, and acquire "out of the ordinary" and "outside of normal channels" items that they require. TOPS Knives is often approached by individual OPERATORS who advise us of their ideas and the criteria that needs to be met for their Unit or Team. This challenge was to develop a small and a large field knife with a fairly narrow carrying profile. It had to be strong and lightweight. With this criteria in mind TOPS created and named the Mil-SPIE Knives. Two sizes were developed: Mil-SPIE-3 and Mil-SPIE-5. This model -Mil-SPIE-5 - is more adept for belt or vest carry, while still maintaining a low profile. The scales are black linen micarta with TOPS dot dash dot pattern embedded in the handle. The handle scales are removable and the skeletonized knife is just as popular as the one with handles. The blade os coated with TOPS black traction coating. The sheath system is heavy duty kydex, which locks the knife in place in the closed position and has a spring steel clip for attachment in a variety of positions.
