  The DPx Gear Hostile Environment Field Tool (HEFT) is designed and built for big-knife work. Whether that means skinning a moose, building a shelter, or carrying it on your next overseas adventure, the full-tang HEFT 6” is a tried-and-tested workhorse. The knife was designed by Robert Young Pelton and Tommaso Rumiciand handmade by LionSTEEL in Northern Italy.

  The 5.75” (145mm) blade is made of Sleipner tool steel with a 60 Rockwell hardness. Sleipner steel is a chromium-vanadium-molybdenum alloy (7% Cr, 0.5% V, 2.5% Mo) much like D2 steel and characterized by its edge retention, ease of sharpening, and resistance to wear and chipping. The Sleipner steel also has excellent “tooth” for repetitive, fine cutting.

  Because the knife is tool steel, and not stainless steel, it is easier to sharpen but may rust if not properly cared for. Rust only affects the appearance of the knife and not the performance. Like all DPx Gear knives, we ask that you use a whetstone or diamond sharpener to dress the edge, and NEVER use a motorized grinder.

  The back of the blade is 0.2” (5mm) thick and features three sizes of wire strippers that serve as jimping. There’s a lanyard hole and lashing points, and an integrated striker and pry bar on the pommel.

  The HEFT 6” is expertly balanced for hours of hard use without causing blisters, hot spots, or bruising. The handle is hollow and designed to store anything from survival materials like fire starter and water-purification tablets. The scales are secured with two hybrid slotted/Allen screws.

  The Assault is a low-profile, super-durable combatives tool. Its PVD black-coated blade has a very low visual signature, making it an excellent choice for law enforcement and military use. The contoured handles are black American G10 scales. The knife weighs 10.23 oz. and comes with a black Cordura sheath.
